The road is riddled with wide potholes, and the pedestrian walkways—what should serve as sidewalks—are severely broken and uneven. As a result, there is hardly any space for pedestrians to walk safely, forcing them to navigate dangerously close to vehicular traffic. The road remains busy throughout the day and night, further compounding the risks.
When it rains, the potholes become water-filled hazards. Drivers, often careless or inconsiderate, splash through these pools of water, drenching pedestrians who are left with no choice but to walk along the compromised roadway. This situation poses a significant safety risk and a serious inconvenience to residents and visitors alike.
Residents are calling on the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and the Guyana Police Force to address these pressing issues as a matter of urgency. The deteriorating condition of the road requires immediate attention to prevent accidents and improve the quality of life for residents.
Another concerning issue is the obstruction of pedestrian pathways by private vehicles. Trucks, cars, motorcycles, and other large objects are frequently parked on the walkways, blocking access for pedestrians. Such actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the safety and convenience of others. How much more inconsiderate can some residents be?
The residents of McDoom Village, Greater Georgetown, are appealing to the relevant authorities to enforce regulations against sidewalk obstruction. Vehicle owners who block pedestrian access should be warned and penalized if necessary. Additionally, the potholes on the road must be promptly repaired, and the parapets cleared of sand, bricks, and debris. Immediate action is essential to ensure that the community can navigate their streets safely and with dignity.
