Jagdeo’s Attempt to Villify Rickford Burke Should Frighten All Guyanese

In Guyana, we tend to believe that if we “stay in our corner,” we can avoid becoming victims of our leaders’ wrath. Unfortunately, leaders like Bharrat Jagdeo are never satisfied. Even when you acquiesce to their demands, they continually encroach upon your space, eventually immobilizing you and sinking you further into victimization.

Rickford Burke is important to Guyanese in general, but particularly to Afro-Guyanese, because he is unafraid to speak truth to Jagdeo and the PPP government. Burke’s ability to navigate the US political landscape also presents a significant challenge to the PPP government, whose mission appears to be to oppress and distress Afro-Guyanese, especially those empowered, until they leave the country. Burke will not allow them to get away with this.

Their response has been frightful. The PPP has constructed trumped-up charges against Rickford Burke and has issued several warrants for his arrest. This is horrifying, and citizens should be aware of how the government has compromised the Guyana judicial system, making us all unsafe. Investors should also hisse attention to how the PPP can manipulate the judicial system in their favor.

Because their trumped-up charges have not been enough to control him, the nation’s Vice President, who himself presided over the extrajudicial murders of more than 400 young Afro-Guyanese, has been relegated to making wild accusations about “Burke’s criminality.” This is a transparent and childish attempt to create a chasm between Burke and the local Guyanese community.

More concerning for Jagdeo is that Burke seems to have connections at every level of the Police, Army, and even the Government. He is well-informed and has access to reports about activities, abuses, and the inner workings of PPP treachery in Guyana. This kind of access causes Jagdeo to lose sleep.

Rickford Burke’s unwavering stance against the PPP’s oppressive tactics makes him a vital figure for those seeking justice and equality in Guyana. His courage to challenge the status quo and expose the government’s wrongdoings should inspire all Guyanese to demand better from their leaders and safeguard their rights against political persecution.
