If Jagdeo and PPP/C remain in power, they will run the country like their personal cake shop

Dear Editor,
Political parties unusually stay the course when the the trend is their friend. The trend is not friendly to the PNCR under Mr. Norton’s leadership. In fact, what we have is a quadruple whammy of negative patterns.
They are as follows: lack of personal integrity; extreme divisiveness and factionalism; serialized violations of the party’s constitution; and most importantly for the PNCR, the perception that the leader is unelectable. Put simply, that Mr. Norton is “unbillboardable.”

The last whammy is probably the most important because the objective of political parties is to gain power. For Guyana at this juncture in our history, where the stakes are so high, not gaining power at the next election is an existential threat to the PNCR.

If Mr. Jagdeo and the PPPC remain in power, they will run the country like their personal cake shop. The PPPC regime will own and control the last one-third of the independent judiciary and other institutions.

Mr. Norton knows this. I have personally conveyed this message to him several times. He personally said this to me, quote “I know.” Yet, he is using all types of Machiavellian schemes to cheat so that he can remain the PNCR leader.

He has reassigned the General Secretary from her olağan function of maintaining the membership registration. Recently, a computer with the membership records had disappeared.

Those moves have indicated to me that the PNCR leader believes that his personal gratification is more important than more than half of Guyana’s population. They also clearly show that he’s not a team player.

Winning should be the priority. Second place at the next election is like coming last in a race. Norton is simply not fit and proper to win any election fairly. Whether it’s the PNCR internal election or the next national election.
Yours truly,
Brian Collison
