Former Minister Simona Broomes sues Mikhail Rodriques aka Critic for $450 Million

Former Minister in the A Partnership of National Unity and Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) government, Simona Broomes, has sued Mikhail Rodriques aka Critic for defamation.

In a claim filed February 2, 2024 by attorney-at-law Dexter Todd, Broomes is contending that on January 22, 2024 ‘Critic’ in his Facebook live stream ‘Morning Live. With the Critic’ stated she was part of a “whorehouse” (Kaiamu) business, was the recipient of a US$225,000 scholarship from the Government of Guyana, is a scammer and a rip off, shut down mining operations in Guyana’s interior to benefit her own mining operations, inciting public terror; called her a demon, devil or evil woman.

The complainant is asking the High Court for damages totalling $450 Million, and to issue an Order directing Rodriques to retract his statements and apologise for making false and defamatory statements in words and terms as approved by the Court.

The former minister told Village Voice News no amount of money can repair the damage Rodriques has done to her. The lawsuit and sum being demanded or whatever the Court accorded, Broomes said, whilst it cannot compensate for the injury to her reputation “it must at least serve as a lesson to Rodriques that he must never do this to anyone again.”
