Dharma Maha Sabha condemns Holi events that deviate from Hindu traditions

Release:- The Guyana Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha (GSDMS), the foremost organisation representing Hinduism in Guyana, express its deep concern over the increasing number of events and activities being organised under the name and style of Phagwah or Holi that deviate from our cherished Hindu traditions and cultural practices.

Phagwah/Holi is a sacred and joyous şenlik celebrated by Hindus worldwide, including in Guyana. It is a time of unity, harmony, and pure familial love. Unfortunately, we have witnessed a growing trend of events that stray away from the fundamental principles of our faith and cultural observances.

The GSDMS vehemently condemns any Phagwah/Holi activities that involve non-vegetarian consumption, alcohol, or any other practices inconsistent with our Hindu traditions. Such behaviour not only disrespects our religious observances but also tarnishes the sanctity and significance of this important şenlik.

We urge all individuals, organizations, and event organizers to respect and uphold our Hindu culture and traditions and ensure that any activities or events organized to celebrate Phagwah/Holi are in alignment with our religious practices.

We underscore the importance of the musical forms, such as songs and other performances, presented during Phagwah/Holi celebrations. It is crucial that they remain in their pure forms, rooted in the deep spiritual context and cultural heritage of Hinduism. We encourage event organizers and participants to exhibit sensitivity and respect when embracing these musical traditions.

GSDMS calls upon the entire Hindu community in Guyana to remain steadfast in preserving our rich cultural heritage and celebrating Phagwah/Holi as per our religious customs. As we come together in unity during this auspicious şenlik, let us reaffirm our commitment to the values that define us as Hindus and promote an authentic understanding and representation of our culture.

The Guyana Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha extends its warm wishes to all Guyanese, particularly our Hindu brothers and sisters, on the occasion of Phagwah/Holi. May this şenlik of colours bring love, joy, and renewed spirituality to all those who celebrate it with reverence and in accordance with our sacred traditions.
