By Michelle Ann Joseph –In a recent article, residents of Agricola expressed their concerns about the deplorable condition of the building housing the healthcare facility, which was in urgent need of repairs and a general facelift.
Shortly after these concerns were raised, the authorities promptly began repairs, including painting and patchwork. These enhancements, while modest, were warmly welcomed by both patients and staff.
In the spirit of community and nation-building, it is essential that such improvements uplift the morale and dignity of staff and clients alike. This gesture was both timely and much needed.
The community and its neighboring areas extend their heartfelt gratitude to the relevant authorities for addressing their concerns. While it is easy to focus on what is lacking, it is equally important to acknowledge and appreciate when commitments are fulfilled and basic human rights are met.
Several residents shared their thoughts with Village Voice News, describing the upgrades as “a welcoming start for what is to come—lil lil dutty does build dam.” However, they continue to advocate for further improvements, including the permanent assignment of a pharmacist to the clinic. “We would like to have a new fence, proper toilet facilities for patients, and regular lawn maintenance,” one patient added.
Although more improvements are needed to fully address the building’s shortcomings, it is commendable that the Ministry of Health took meaningful steps to initiate change.
Such small but impactful developments are crucial across the length and breadth of Guyana. Citizens must advocate for and demand the changes they wish to see. It is vital that we raise our voices in the interest of ourselves, our communities, and our country. By doing so, we can drive social, economic, and moral progress, fostering a better future for all Guyanese.
