Let’s join together, stronger than ever, to demand good governance, transparency, equitable distribution of nation’s wealth
As we step into 2025, the Guyana Trades Union Congress (GTUC) stands resolute in our commitment to the rights and well-being of workers, and to the fight for a just, fair, and inclusive society. The challenges we face are great, but together, we are stronger and more determined than ever to continue the struggle for good governance, the rule of law, and equality for all.
2024 has shown us, more than ever, the urgent need for vigilance and action. Under the current PPP/C regime, we have witnessed deepening discrimination and policies that do not serve the interests of all Guyanese.
The government’s failure to govern inclusively has left the majority of our people behind while enriching a select few. Despite the country’s unprecedented oil wealth, the PPP/C regime has failed to ensure that workers and ordinary citizens are beneficiaries of the oil boom.
It is evident the Jagdeo/Ali regime is more interested in protecting the privileges of a few elites than in creating a fair, equitable society for all. There are glaring disparities in wealth, opportunities, and social services that disproportionately affect the working class and marginalised communities. The oil wealth of this nation, which should benefit all of us, is being mismanaged, with little accountability or transparency. The people continue to suffer, while the few in power continue to benefit.
As we enter 2025, we call on all workers, the people, and trade unions to remain vigilant, proactive, and united in the fight for better living and working conditions. The time has come for us to demand our fair share of the country’s natural resources and to hold the Government and Opposition accountable for their actions.
We must ensure that the oil economy works for the benefit of all Guyanese, not just a select few. Let us join together, stronger than ever, to demand good governance, transparency, and the equitable distribution of our nation’s wealth. The fight for the rule of law and social justice is far from over.
