BARAMITA, GUYANA- At the heart of Matarkai Sub-District, a transformative initiative by Food For the Poor (Guyana) Inc., in partnership with STEM Guyana, is reshaping the educational landscape for students in Baramita village. The Learning Pod Program, designed to close the educational gap, currently supports 20 students with an enriched curriculum in core subjects including Mathematics, Science, English, and Social Studies, alongside advanced technology and engineering as part of its robust Robotics Component.
“The program transcends traditional education by fostering critical thinkers through interactive and interdisciplinary methods,” says a representative from Food For the Poor. “It enhances students’ learning processes and significantly increases their engagement, motivation, and self-esteem.”
In an area where access to educational resources can be limited, this initiative serves as a crucial educational resource. It introduces young learners to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields early on, filling crucial knowledge gaps and igniting a spark of curiosity and ambition. Skills in coding, robotics, and digital literacy, which are paramount in today’s job market, are integral parts of the curriculum.
The program also promotes vital life skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and teamwork through its hands-on learning experiences. “Watching these children work together to tackle complex problems and construct robots is incredibly inspiring. They are preparing to become the next generation of leaders and innovators,” says a STEM Guyana educator.
Aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, the Learning Pod Program strives to provide inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Food For the Poor (Guyana) Inc. is dedicated to equipping the children of Baramita to surmount educational challenges and realize their full potential.
As the program expands, it aims to not only transform the lives of individual students but also to bring long-term benefits to the community at large. With the right tools in hand, Baramita’s students are set to forge a brighter future for themselves and their community. While the Barimita learning pod is sponsored by Food For the Poor, Canada, Forty of STEMGuyana’s learning pods are sponsored by IDBLab.
