China believes the Bolivian government is capable of maintaining peace and stability, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday after a failed coup had roiled the Latin American country.
The coup, led by General Juan Jose Zuniga against Bolivian President Luis Arce in an attempt to “restore democracy,” was botched by the government on Wednesday evening, with Zuniga arrested.
China has noticed reports about the “irregular military action” in Bolivia, and as a good friend, China hopes for peace and stability in Bolivia, which correspond to the long-term interests of the Bolivian people, Mao said.
