In a fiery episode of his talk show, “Conversations With Rickford Burke,” Guyanese advocate Rickford Burke, based overseas, delivered a scathing response to Gail Teixeira’s unfounded allegations during the United Nations Human Rights Committee hearing. Teixeira accused Burke of inciting violence and racial divisions, targeting the government and advocating for destructive actions.
Teixeira, referring to Burke, asserted, “…he lives overseas, carrying a divisive agenda. He has called for government removal and even the burning down of buildings.” These claims, unsupported by evidence, painted Burke as a provocateur of racial tensions and an advocate for overthrowing the government through violent means.
Burke swiftly countered, asserting his right to speak out against racism and corruption within the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) in Guyana, regardless of his residency. He vehemently rejected the notion that discussing PPP racism was off-limits, emphasizing his commitment to justice and marginalized communities.
In response to Teixeira’s allegations, Burke issued a direct challenge: “Bring the facts, bring the raw evidence.” He condemned the government’s tactics of fabricating stories to discredit dissenting voices, labeling them as “dirty lowdown liars.” Urging accountability, Burke called for sanctions against Teixiera for misleading the United Nations committee and stressed the importance of presenting credible evidence to uphold integrity and justice.
