As a nation blessed with vast stretches of pristine rainforests, we understand the vital role these ecosystems play in sustaining life on our planet.
Guyana’s forest is unique and diverse with over 80 % of Guyana’s land mass is covered with tropical rainforest. Since this pristine natural habitat provides livelihood, medicine and food for both humans and animals, Guyana has embarked on sustainable forest management (SFM). As a result, Guyana is now one of only six Tropical Forest producing countries in the world practicing sustainable management.
The AFC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to forest conservation, biodiversity preservation, and sustainable forest management practices. Our forests not only serve as carbon sinks, mitigating climate change impacts, but they also provide habitat for countless species of flora and fauna, essential resources for indigenous communities, and serve as vital lungs for the Earth.
