The Alliance For Change (AFC) met Wednesday afternoon with the Equality and Justice Party as part of the party’s ongoing “Listening and Groundings” sessions with representatives of political parties and key stakeholders. So said the party in a release.
The party said its Leader Mr. C. A. Nigel Hughes and Leader of the Equality and Justice Party Mr. Jaipaul Sharma discussed matters of mutual interest including economic issues and shared concerns on the heavy burden the current high cost of living is placing on the citizens of Guyana. Other social challenges facing the nation were also raised and of deep concern.
Also participating in the fruitful discussions were the Chairman of the AFC Mr. David Patterson, General Secretary Mr. Raphael Trotman and executive member Ms. Dianna Rajkumar.
The parties said they look forward to possible future collaborations.
The Equality and Justice Party is part of the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) coalition which teamed up with the AFC to contest the 2015 and 2020 General and Regional Elections. This coalition- APNU+AFC- is currently the major parliamentary Opposition.
As Guyana approaches its next General and Regional Elections, constitutionally due in 2025, political parties in the Opposition are seeking to form alliances and broaden their tent. The AFC has taken a more proactive and aggressive stance in this regard.
