Loop News – The Government of Guyana has announced a regional registration schedule for the GUY$100,000 cash grant aimed at providing financial support to citizens.
Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, during his weekly press conference on Thursday, reassured that individuals who missed the initial registration periods would still be able to receive their cash grants at a later stage.
Jagdeo clarified that the government is currently in the process of registering citizens in Regions One, Four, Seven, Eight, and Nine. While registration is actively underway in these regions, schedules have already been issued for each, except for Region Seven. Notably, some residents of Region Nine have already begun receiving their cash grants.
“We envision that cheques will be distributed to citizens in these regions over the next few weeks. The registration and distribution process will continue in other regions subsequently,” Jagdeo stated.
The Vice President emphasized that no citizen would be left out of the distribution, even if they missed the initial registration.
He explained, “If we complete registration for 95 or 96 percent of a region and distribute the cheques, we will set up a mechanism for the remaining citizens to register so they too can receive their cheques. You are not going to miss out on the resources.”
Jagdeo also acknowledged the challenges faced during the registration process due to its scale but reassured the public that the Ministry of Finance has put in place a feedback mechanism to ensure continuous improvement.
The cash grants, which were first announced by President Irfaan Ali during his parliamentary address on October 10, form part of a nationwide initiative to inject approximately GUY$60 billion into the pockets of Guyanese citizens.
The full distribution of the cash grants is expected to be completed within the coming months across the entire country.
